Your first step is to make sure your brand is registered in Amazon’s brand registry, which validates and authenticates you as the brand owner and armed you with protection.
In order to register with Amazon, you must first have a trademark on file with the United Kingdom, European Union, or United States Trademark Office. If you find out that some of your products are being offered by other sellers, this could tarnish your brand reputation. Let’s say a customer received a product believing it was authentic and from your brand, A brand they trust and value.
However, the customer receives a product with inferior quality. Made to different specifications or one that didn’t go through stringent Q and C or Q and A controls, that shopper still believes the inferior product is from you, the manufacturer, and your reputation can get tarnished. So what can you do if you see your product being sold from a seller and you know it is not your product?
You are confident that the seller never purchased it from you, and there are no other means for that seller to have your product. How do you confirm it’s a counterfeit product? Simply buy it. If you buy the item, you then have a sample on hand. You can check lot numbers, UPC codes, packaging, paper stock, product measurements, gauges, etc.
Arming yourself with proof of a sample can help you to make the final determination as to whether it is authentic or counterfeit. And once you are armed with proof, it’s time to submit a case to Amazon to have that seller removed from your listing.
